On the north-west coast of Africa, Morocco has such a huge coastline to the Atlantic - making it a perfect winter surf destination (and only a 4 hour flight from most of Europe). Its a really cool place to go and surf at whatever level youre at from beginner up to pro.
The main Sahara Surfing season starts in October and runs through until March although there are waves year round. The main surf town is Tagzhaout which is about 10k north of Agadir. If you want to hook up with other surfers and surf some of Moroccos well known surf spots head there. If you want to get away from the crowds you dont have to travel far until you find waves for yourself.
More and more surfers are becoming wise that there are waves north and south of this town waves that often youll get to surf for yourself you just need to venture out a little further, do some exploring for yourself or hire your self a good local surf guide who will take the pain out of finding those epic un-crowded waves for you (and the likelihood of any altercations with any protective locals should that happen).
North of Taghazout is Imousuane, a lovely fishing village well worth a visit for a few nights. Or head south towards Sidi Ifni or further into the Western Sahara for a surf experience like no other. Youd be well advised to get a surf guide or go on a surf trip to ensure you score the best waves during your visit. Morocco has so much choice when it comes to surf spots and with such a stunning coastline and hospitable culture its no surprise that many visitors to Morocco go back time after time after time. To get there its best to fly into Agadir airport although you can fly to Marrakech but then take a bus down to Agadir (really cheap and about 3 hours) then once youre at Agadir you can go north or south for some excellent surf.
